Make your own creative notebooks
Even though you can do almost everything digitally with your smartphone these days, some people can’t – and don’t want to – live without a classic paper notebook. Maybe the paper notebook is so popular these days because it implies to take (screen-free) time for it? Some people also remember things easier if they write them down by hand. Whether for to-do lists, short notes, important information, nice thoughts, or creative ideas – they are all bundled in one place and won’t get lost. Notebooks can also be useful as an organisational aid, creative scrapbook, bullet journal or even as a personal diary. If the notebook is also self-made and personalised, you will be delighted every time you open it. In this article we show you how to make your own notebook with thread binding. As always, whatever you like is allowed!
Material
For two notebooks (A6, 16 pages each)
- 8 x A4 printer paper, 80 gsm
- 1 x A4 patterned paper, 200-300 gsm
- Guillotine DAHLE 534
- Brochure stapler NOVUS B17
For the details (optional)
- Awl or pointed scissors
- String and wooden bead
- Adhesive tape
- Plain coloured paper
- Glue stick
- Rotary trimmer DAHLE 507
- Creative set DAHLE 980
- Stamps or pens for labelling
Instructions:
Cut sheets to size
Place all the sheets in a stack and cut them into A5 format using the guillotine. Due to format lines on the cutting table, finding the right format is especially easy with the guillotine.
Fold printer and pattern paper
Take the stack of printer paper and the pattern paper separately and fold them in the centre. Insert the folded printer paper into the folded pattern paper. If some sheets of the printer paper are sticking out at the edge, cut off a few millimetres with the guillotine.
Staple pages
Unfold the sheets and staple them in the centre with the brochure stapler.
Make a personalised label for the title
Cut a piece of plain coloured paper into approx. 4-6 cm by using the deckle-cut cutter head of the Creative set and stick it to the front of your notebook. Now you can write, stamp or cut out lettering from magazines and stick it on.
Attach string
Pierce a hole in the back of your notebook by using an awl or pointed scissors. Thread a string through and fix it to the inside of the notebook with adhesive tape. Wrap the string twice around the booklet, tie a wooden bead to the end and cut the rest of the string.
